TU women v.Hillsdale
February 25, 2010 - Zach Baker
What looked like a tough game on paper got much tougher yesterday, when Tiffin post Jessica Harris rolled her ankle. She's on crutches, and if I were to guess, I'd say her season is over. TU closes it's regular season Saturday.
With 17:05 left in the first half, TU trails, 7-4.
The Dragons have gone on a 7-2 run, and lead, 14-9. So far, Hillsdale has been hesitant to foce the issue inside, which would seem to be the most logical gameplan with TU's lack of size up front. (13:51)
With 9:56 left, we're tied at 19. Jaeb has eight points. The Dragons have shot reasonably well so far, and it's staying with the bigger Chargers.
Other Dragons are stepping up in Harris' absence. I have Katrina Clark for five rebounds. Jessica Harris has hit some key jump shots, and Stephanie Kelly has eight points. TU leads, 32-30. Considering the Dragons lost by 40 to Hillsdale last time, and are without their best post player, this is an accomplishment.
TU leads at the half, 42-33. The Dragons are out-rebounding Hillsdale, 22-17, which is pretty stunning. Jaeb has 10 points, Stephanie Kelly eight, Karli Mast seven and Jennifer Johnston nine. But the biggest reason TU is where is is is the play of senior Katrina Clark, who has six rebounds off the bench.
Hillsdale is being led by Chelsea Harrison and Laura Barczak, who have nine points each.
With 14:35 left in regulation, the Dragons hold a 51-47 edge over the Chargers, but Hillsdale's Leah Jones is heading to the line foir two free throws. TU's defense hasn't been as strong in the second half, but then again, Hillsdale is attacking the paint.
With about 9 and a half minutes remaining, Hillsdale's offense is clicking, and the Dragons are struggling to keep up. Harrison has 16, and Hillsdale leads, 62-58.
Jaeb hasn't scored yet in the second half. It's not for a lack of trying, but her shot has been a little off thus far. Mast has picked up the slack, with 14 points.
Laura Barczak has scored eight straight points for the Chargers. She has 21, and we're tied at 70 (6:02)
-A the 3:34 mark, TU trails, 72-70. Jaeb's shots still aren't falling, but the Dragons are getting enough offense from everyone else to stay in it..
With 1:53 left, the Chargers lead, 80-73. Jaeb just missed a short jumper. She has 14. The general concensus going in was that the Dragons needed 30 from her to contend. It hasn't worked out that way, but it looks like TU is starting to tire out.
