| | The Winter (?) OlympicsFebruary 12, 2010 - Al StephensonThe Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics will take place today in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I was in Vancouver once, however briefly, as I embarked on a cruise to Alaska. The city looked nice and I suppose it was a good choice for the Olympic Games. There is one major problem though. Vancouver is in the midst of its warmest winter ever and precious little snow is to be found. Trust me when I say that snow is a prerequisite for certain Olympic events that involve the use of the word ski. Organizers have been busy trucking in snow for the games, but forecasts of rain have people wondering if the snow is going to melt so fast that some events could end up being cancelled. Now that's a serious problem. Assuming that everything goes according to plan, the Olympics could be a nice diversion to some of our own economic woes. Here's hoping you get to enjoy ALL of the events the Olympics will attempt to offer. The view from my seat suggests that if the organizers need more snow they should contact me. I have plenty on either side of the driveway! Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
