HU men v. Otterbein

January 27, 2010 - Zach Baker

Heidelberg has established itself as a top team in the OAC so far, but you worry about a team like Otterbein, that is 2-8, but has given some teams some problems. HU came off a great road trip, one just hopes they don't have a letdown. HU is up. 8-5 so far (17:39) .

Otterbein leads 13-12 affter it has connected on a few 3's. After a Brian Pollock's jumper, the Cardinals lead, 15-12 with 13:45 left.

After Matt Grieves splits a pair of free throws, it's 23-19 Otterbein. Heidelberg wants to push, but sometimes that has resulted in turnovers. After New Riegel graduate Travis Kinn drains a jumper in transition, Heidelberg extends its lead to 25-19, its biggest lead of the game. Timeout, OC. 8:26

Heidelberg just took over at the end of the half, scoring 22 points in the final eight minutes, and finishing the half on a 9-0 run. A Josh Calver's 4-point play from the right corner, followed by a steal and bucket by Jim Smalley have made it 47-31 at the break.

Second half

The key is Heidelberg not letting down. Otterbein has shown an ability to make games close in the second half. It did so last week before losing at Ohio Northern.

Nate Davis just got called for a personal and a technical, and it's 54-39 Heidelberg with 16:44. This comes a few minutes after Davis hit a right-handed slam that put Heidelberg up 20. Calver buries another 3. It's 57-39, 15:53 left.

Heidedlberg holds a 73-56 leacd over Otterbein with 7:50 left. Travis Kinn has 12, Josh Calver has 10,  and Jim Smalley has scored 10. Good night for the seniors.

Givner just buried a 3 from the right wing. Heidelberg's lead is back up to 81-63 at the 4:39 mark.

This one should be over. Heidelberg leads, 84-68, with 3:36 left, The biggest reason Otterbein has it that close is because the Cradinals are making 3s. But they haven't been able to put a serious dent in the lead.
