| | Will they take you to ... funky town?May 12, 2009 - Rob WeaverI received a note from the activity director at Ruffing Family Care Center explaining the staff is celebrating National Nursing Home Week with some '50s-related events this week. For example, a '50s-style menu was added to the dining room this week, Thursday is to include a musical Sock Hop and Friday's plans include a tribute to Elvis. The announcement made me realize that folks who remember sock hops and poodle skirts and Chuck Berry have reached retirement age. And, well, none of us are getting any younger. As time marches on, the care centers and nursing homes will begin to host baby boomers who came of age during very different times. It'll be interesting to see how the Summer of Love and Woodstock are remembered during Nursing Home Week a few decades from now. Note to future activity directors: Canvas your residents before incorporating a disco-era theme. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
