| | Late in the Africentric-Crestview semiMarch 19, 2009 - Zach BakerJust arrived at the Schott. Africentric leads, 24-19, late in the third quarter. The floor looks like it was imported from the 1971 ABA All-Star game. Heading to the fourth quarter, it's 25-19 Nubians. I get to sit next to a monitor with all the players' stats, and a mini TV feed of the game. I feel like humming Peter Gabriel. Melissa Eickholt's 3 brings Crestview to within 25-22 with 5:16 to go. She has six points, but is playing with four fouls. Africentric holds the ball for more than a minute, before a 3-second is called on it. Eickholt scores again, making it a 1-point game. 3:15 left. Over and back on Nubians gives the ball back to the Knights. Crestview coach Greg Rickard takes time. 2:33 left. Eickholt gets fouled, makes both throws. 26-25 Knights, 1:49 left. Nubians' Raven Ferguson makes a layup, then Shardai Morrison-Fountain gets a breakaway for the Nubians. She gets fouled on a layup attempt, and heads to the line with 1:26 left. Timeout. Africentric leads, 27-26. Morrison-Fountain splits at the line, but the ball hits a Crestview player and goes out of bounds. Now Brein Babbs is at the stripe and makes both. 1:04 to go. Knights whistled for traveling. Ashar Harris is fouled and goes to the line. She makes both. 32-26 with 51 seconds left. It looks to be over, as Crestview can't convert on its next possession then gets called for an intentional. Should Carey prevail, it will face the Nubians, 39-33 winners.
