Heidelberg men v. Capital

February 18, 2009 - Zach Baker

Heidelberg was on fire in the first half, making more than 53 percent of its shots and staking itself to a 40-30 halftime lead.

Jake Hessey has made three 3's to lead Heidelberg with nine points. Travis Kinn has eight, as does Quinin Aden.

Second half hasn't started great for HU. Heidelberg has come up empty on its first three offensive possessions and has seen its lead trimmed to 40-33 at the 18:18 mark. Quintin Mitchell has scored 12 points to lead the Crusaders.

-With 4:57 left in regulation, Capital has grabbed a 64-62 lead. Capital has just kept coming, and Mitchel has been terrific. He has 29 points. Hessey's at the line as I write this with a chance to tie the game. He splits the pair, and Capital maintains a 1-point edge.

-Smalley just hit a right edg with four minutes left. 3. Berg leads 66-65.

Capital has regained the lead, 70-68, with 2:57 left. Nate Stahl has hit a couple of big time 3s in this game.

-Calver drains a pair of foul shots at the 2:29 mark. It's back to 71-70 CU. Stahl hits another 3 from the right wing, giving Capital a 4-point lead. Kinn hits a pair of throws to make it 74-72 at the 1:43 mark.

Mitchell is ridiclous, busting inside for what looks like an easy layup. Trust me, it wasn't. Mitchell's over 30. Tuley hits a hook to make it 76-74 with 40 seconds left. Capital has the ball, but has 13 on the shot clock. We're in a timeout. Look out for Mitchell.

Kinn gets a rebound, then Calver tries to force himself inside for a layup, but Ross Niekamp steals the ball and is fouled. Niekamp made his first foul shot, and has another coming. If he makes it, it might end things. 10.4 left.

He makes it. Hessey scores a layup with 3.2 on the clock. Inbound to come. If Capital gets it in, it's probably over.

Jake Fanning gets it. 2.3 seconds. He bounces it in. Another ends it. It misses. Calver gets the ball and launches, but no go. Valient effort, but its a 79-76 Berg loss
