| | TU women v. N. MichiganFebruary 7, 2009 - Zach BakerThis one should be a winnable game. Pam Oswald said Thursday that the Dragons will need to "knock some teams off" to have a shot at the GLIAC postseason. The key here? Avoid the early deficit. I expect Alexis Karel to have a big game. -With 14-11 left, the Wildcats' Kellie Rietveld broke ahead of the TU defense for a layup, putting her team ahead, 12-11. Rietveld has another foul shot coming. Mandy Jaeb has four points for the Dragons. -TU leads 18-17 at the 9:56 mark. Alexis Karel took a nasty spill, and was down for a while, but it appears she'll be OK. A 3-pointer from the left corner by Fallon Sanborn gave TU a lead. -For about three minutes, everything was clicking for Tiffin. It got a left-corner 3 from Leanne Lucius and a jumper from Holly Focke to grab a 30-21 lead. It's now 30-25 with 4:24 left until the half. - With 1:27, Dragons lead, 37-31. Jaeb just connected on a jumper. She has eight points. Fletcher just stuck a layup in a crowd to give TU a 41-31 edge at the half. Best I've seen TU play in a half. -With 13:09 to go in the second half, the Wildcats have stormed back to trail, 48-46. Angie Leckson got to the line on three straight possessions, and Northern Michigan has controlled the tempo since. -Leckson had no points in the first half. She has 12 in the second, and TU has not been able to stop her at all. With 9:36 left, Northern Michigan leads, 56-53. -The Dragons' offense has gone stone cold here. They tail, 62-57, with 4:57 left. Meanwhile, Kelsey Deacon has 13 points for the Wildcats. Northern Michigan is heating up at the right time. TU is not. -TU's hanging on, but barely. It's 66-62 with about 2:00 left. Spiegel was just fouled on a basket, but TU has struggled from the line in the second half. She makes this one. 68-63 -Speigel's drive to the bucket makes it 70-65. Northern Michigan has the ball with 58 seconds left in the game and 17 on the shot clock. TU needs a stop here to have a shot. It didn't get it. Deacon was fouled and drilled a pair of throws. Sanborn answered with a bucket, but 38.3 seconds is all that's left. After the Wildcats split a pair at the line, TU can't answer. Looks like another loss. Northern Michigan wins, 76-70.
