College Town Players of the Week

January 23, 2009 - Zach Baker

For Tiffin, this week's selection is men's basketball player Donnell Patterson, who scored a team-best 21 points in Thursday's  106-65 loss to No. 1 Findlay.

Patterson, a junior guard, has emerged as one of the Dragons most dependable scorers. He is tied for second on the team (with forward Rafael Cuellar) with an 11.4 points a game average.

After Thursday night's game, coach Rodney Martin praised Patterson's maturity on the court, and said he hopes it rubs off on the team's many younger players.

Heidelberg wrestler Jarred Hoxie (125 pounds) gets the nod for his school, after pinning Ohio Northern's David Penny in the Princes 36-3 win in Ada Tuesday night.

The match featured the past two OAC champions in the weight class, with Hoxie defeating Penny in 6:56. Hoxie is 19-15 this season, 3-0 in the OAC. Heidelberg (7-3, 3-0 OAC) is ranked No. 24 in Division III.
