Tiffin-SVSU women's

December 18, 2008 - Zach Baker

From the Gillmor Center.

First Half

-Tiffin is leading 20-17. The Dragons got three quick 3's from ... oh wait, make that five. TU is leading 28-17 with 7:34 left in the half. Saginaw Valley State has really struggled, so her's an opportunity for a win.

In a cool moment, TU men's coach Rodney Martin was applauding enthusiastically after Lucius' fifth 3.

On the strength of a left-corner 3, then steal and layup by Megan Fletcher, TU leads 33-24 with 4:12 left in the half.

-As blues legend Muddy Waters would say, Lucius has her mojo working. The NR graduate has drained seven 3-pointers in the first half, accounting for all of her 21 points. The school record for a game is 10, set by Ashley Allen.

TU leads at the break, 39-32. Saginaw Valley keeps coming back, and Lucius hits a 3. Rinse, repeat.

TU is shooting 60 percent (15 of 25). Lucius has five rebounds, but three fouls, which will be something to watch in the second half.

Saginaw Valley State's Marah Kyle has 13 points.

- A pair of 3pointers by Fallon Sanborn have helped stretch the Dragons lead to 52-36 with 14:22 left.

- SVSU just won't go away. It trails 58-45, but is at the line for a pair of free throws with 8:46 left. Lucius hasn't hit a 3 yet in the second half, and has four fouls on her.

- OK, I finally feel confident enough to say the Dragons have put this one on ice. They lead 67-49 with 4:51 left. Lucius will get the lede and the headline, but the true star is Kylene Spiegel, who hasn't been afraid to work inside and has 12 points.
