Hurricane blows away Halloween plans

A former Tiffin mayor used to chuckle when city residents called his office to ask when trick-or-treat night would be that year.

“Halloween,” he said, “is on Halloween.”

To him, asking when goody-grabbing would commence was like asking when to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Now, we are expecting a frankenstorm named Sandy that raises a specter scarier than any Nightmare on Elm Street. Thus, trick-or-treating has been rescheduled in many communities. Treat gathering has been postponed until Saturday afternoon in Fostoria and Sunday in Tiffin and Bascom.

It's a smart move. Plus, the weekend forecast calls for highs in the mid- to upper 40s and partly cloudy skies.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a high-wind warning for Tuesday. To be on the safe side, I suggest any wicked witches to be wary of falling houses.
