Ol' Doc's Football Forecast Week 7

October 11, 2012 - Al Stephenson
Two out of three isn't bad. That was what Ol Doc took to the bank last week. I correctly predicted that Ohio State would knock off Nebraska though I did not have the Bucks scoring 63 points. I'm also sure that no one else did either. I was right in suggesting that Florida would handle LSU in The Swamp. I forgot that I had said earlier that Georgia always laid an egg at some point in the season. Was their big loss to South Carolina that clucky performance or are the Gamecocks for real. That's a question that I will have to ascertain the answer to this week.

12-6 for the season and looking to get better, here's my picks for this week.

#3 South Carolina at #9 LSU. So are the Gamecocks for real? Lattimore is very good. Shaw is gutsy. Spurrier knows how to coach. They are headed for Baton Rouge to play a wounded LSU team. A loss here sends the Tigers to a mediocre season at best. Their proverbial backs are against the wall. Sorry South Carolina, but I think LSU rebounds.

LSU 24 South Carolina 20.

#15 Texas at #13 Oklahoma. The Big 12 (or however many schools are in the conference now) has been shaken up lately. Schools have jumped ship, many of whom were unhappy with Texas and its controlling nature. Can the Longhorns control the tempo against the Sooners? Don't think so. Landry has big day and Mack Brown gets one game closer to retirement.

Oklahoma 38 Texas 28.

Akron at Ohio. I'm going to be at this one. Homecoming in Athens means a return of Marching 110 Alumni. The halftime show will be awesome, but unlike some past seasons when people headed for the exits after watching the band at halftime, this year's Bobcats are 6-0 and bowl eligible already. Akron has a new coach who wants to see 80-90 snaps a game. Their hurried pace has not resulted in many wins this season. This could be a trap game for OU. They couldn't possibly let me down - could they? I think not.

Ohio 42 Akron 24.

The view from my seat suggests that Ol Doc is feeling confident again this weekend. Time will tell if his confidence is justified.
