Calvert's Olivia Smith: champion

June 2, 2012 - Zach Baker
Olivia Smith made Calvert history Saturday at the state track meet, becoming the first Seneca to win an open event. Smith took first in the 800 in 2:14.12. It's the first Calvert championship at state since 1998.

In other events, Calvert's 4x2 boys took third, the 4x1 boys took eighth and Joe Brodman placed 11th in the 1,600.

Other local finishes: Carey took seventh in the 4x2 girls race, while Seneca East's Kevin Moore took sixth in the 110 hurdles.

More to come, including Columbian's Autumn Nichols in the hurdles in about two hours.

Nichols goes fifth in the 300 hurdles, ninth in the 100 hurdles.
