| | Same drive, different day?May 10, 2012 - Rob WeaverThe Help Stamp Out Hunger food drive is set for Saturday, when letter carriers plan to collect non-perishable donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes. Last year, letter carriers collected 70.2 million pounds of food donations as they made their rounds in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. The food drive has been conducted the second Saturday of May since 1992. But its future as a Saturday collection is uncertain. The U.S. Senate has passed a measure that would drop Saturday delivery if the U.S Postal Service can’t reduce losses sufficiently within the next two years. So unless the Postal Service stamps out deficits, Stamp Out Hunger may have to be forwarded to a weekday. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | Blog Photos![]() |
