What’s all the Hoopla about?

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library strives to remain well-informed about the latest developments in the digital realm. One of the many free applications we offer is Hoopla, a digital service of Midwest Tape. The library has partnered with Midwest Tape for many years to bring our patrons the latest music, movies and TV shows as well as audiobooks, ebooks and graphic novels. Patrons are able to borrow content instantly with a streaming service similar to Netflix. No matter your age or preferences, there is something for everyone.

Ten checkouts a month are available through a multitude of platforms including Apple and Android devices, Roku, Apple TV, Alexa, and Kindle Fire. With 685 total circs borrowed by 179 patrons in March, it’s clear this service is popular. Still, we would love to see those statistics grow. So why not checked out the number one circulated ebook, “Girl Wash Your Face,” by Rachel Hollis, or listen to the No. 1 circulated CD, “Look Up Child,” by Lauren Daigle? The best part is – there’s no wait. If you can find it on Hoopla, you can access it instantly.

Parents and guardians have the ability to enable Hoopla Kids Mode designed for children up to age 12. This collection is specially curated to be family-friendly. Another wonderful addition for kids is Hoopla Read-Along. By searching “read-along,” a large selection of titles are available with a guide that highlights the word and reads it out loud, giving kids the ability to explore on their own.

Adults also may be interested in the new Book Club Hub feature. Every quarter, Hoopla features a Spotlight Title. Exclusive interviews with the author as well as similar title recommendations also are available. This quarter’s selection is “The Museum of Modern Love,” by Heather Rose, and can be downloaded as an audio or ebook. Visit http://theclub.hoopladigital.com to discover all the materials one would need to lead a book discussion.

If you haven’t signed up with Hoopla yet, it’s free with just a library card. Visit www.tiffinsenecalibrary.com/dowloads for more information. For iOS and Android users who choose to install the Hoopla app, please note that data rates may apply so it is best to use wi-fi when streaming content.

Are you interested in using Hoopla but need help getting started? Tiffin-Seneca Public Library offers one-on-one tech sessions to help patrons navigate their devices while using apps such as Hoopla, OverDrive, Freegal and RB Digital.
