‘Gathering of Readers’ planned Dec. 19

This past year, Tiffin-Seneca Public Library underwent some changes with the renovation of our building. However, one thing that has not changed is our community’s love of reading.

This summer, 449 adults participated in the Summer Reading Program and read almost 3,000 books. The Let’s Talk About It book group has been meeting since 1985, and we just added a new mystery book discussion group, Seneca County Sleuths.

The Library also facilitates another book group in partnership with the Seneca County Opportunity Center. This group is called The Next Chapter Book Club, and it is for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Some of you belong to your own book clubs and get together with friends or co-workers to talk about books. Most of you read or listen to books on your own as your schedule allows. We know you are using the library, because each year we have more than 300,000 visits by library patrons. And, the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has already circulated more than 170,000 items this year.

No matter what you like to read, how much you read, or how often you read, we want to celebrate that love of reading. Unfortunately, many adults tell us they just do not have time to read or be in a book group right now. Things like work, kids and school seem to get in the way of reading. So, we will be holding a special event for readers that involves minimal preparation.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m., the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library will host a “Gathering of Readers” for adults who love to read. All you need to do is bring the following:

1. Yourself. (You are also welcome to bring a friend, a family member, a neighbor, a co-worker, or your whole book club!)

2. The title of a book you are thankful you read this year. You don’t have to bring the book with you – just be prepared to share a title with the group.

3. A gently used book you no longer want or need. We will be having a white elephant book exchange. Please wrap the book in any kind of wrapping paper, the comics, or even a brown paper bag. By the time we’re through, you’ll have a new book to take home with you.

We will provide bookmarks so you can start a list of the titles you would like to read in 2018, and we will have some reading challenges you might want to try in the new year. Attendees also will get a preview of upcoming programs we have planned, and a sneak peek of the events for the 2018 Community Read.

The Adult Services staff looks forward to this opportunity to bring readers together. Any adult who enjoys reading is invited to join us for this event. No registration is necessary, and light refreshments will be served.

If you have questions about the “Gathering of Readers,” please call the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library at (419) 447-3751.
