Survivor exhibits courage

We tip our cap today to the courageous survivor of human trafficking who shared her story Thursday evening.

Lindsay — who was trafficked for seven years and has been free for about the past two — addressed students, professors and community members on the Heidelberg University campus. Yes, we recognize the courage it took to share her experience with an audience of strangers.

But we also acknowledge the fortitude she exhibited in persevering during the time she was trafficked and the determination she showed in repeatedly daring to escape the circumstances.

Also, we salute the man who freed her from the situation and to people and places — like own Sisters in Shelter — that provide safe haven for those who escape slavery and help them transition to a life of freedom.
