School resource officer a good idea

We tip our cap this week to efforts to secure a school resource officer for Columbian High School.

While an agreement to have a Tiffin Police officer on duty in the school still is being considered by Tiffin City Council, members of the Tiffin City Board of Education approved it earlier this week. The school district would foot 100 percent of the bill for the first year of the five-year deal, 25 percent of the cost would shift to the city over the remaining years.

One councilman asked why the city can’t offer a similar arrangement with Calvert Catholic Schools or Bridges Community Academy. One might also add North Central Academy and Tiffin Middle School.

But no one is questioning the usefulness of such an officer in the public high school. That’s certainly a great place to start.
