Footwork helps cops capture suspect
We’re broaching this subject with some trepidation. That’s because, in real life, there’s no such thing as playing cops and robbers. All too often catching a suspect can be deadly business.
But that’s just the point cited by Columbus police, who commended a citizen for helping them apprehend an armed man who was fleeing from officers. A man identified only as “Bill” tripped the suspect, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody without firing a shot.
Again, we are reluctant to encourage bystanders to insert themselves into hazardous situations such as a police chase. But in this case, a timely trip enabled a suspect to be caught without violence.
