With debt forgiven, way clear for move

This week, we give a tip of the cap to the Ohio Legislature and Gov. John Kasich for removing a major obstacle to the consolidation of Bettsville and Old fort school districts.

Kasich officially signed a bill Monday that included forgiving the debt of the Bettsville district. The debt has been transferred to the State Solvency Fund. That helps clear the way for the district territory and property to be acquired by the Old Fort district.

The last step in that process is for the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center to approve a resolution setting a date for the transfer. That could occur at the center’s meeting Tuesday.
