Two ways you can help fight hunger

This weekend, residents of our area have two more opportunities to help stock food pantry shelves.

The first is during Relay For Life of Tiffin, which starts at 6 p.m. today at Hedges-Boyer Park. The second is the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive Saturday.

Relay team members and those who plan to purchase a luminary this evening are asked to bring a canned good. The item is to be used as ballast in a luminary bag. Later, the canned goods are to be collected to help feed the hungry in our area.

Saturday, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive returns for its 21st year. To participate, leave a bag of non-perishable food items near your mailbox. A letter carrier will deliver the food to a local food bank.

Examples of non-perishable items include peanut butter, canned soup, canned meats and fish, and canned vegetables, fruits and juices, as well as boxed goods such as cereal, pasta and rice.
