Ray G. Mathews
Ray G. Mathews, 87, of Tiffin, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at his home.
He was born May 26, 1931, in Tiffin, to Dorsey and Regina (Miller) Mathews. He married Virginia (Hunt) Elchert Oct. 18, 1974, and she died June 30, 2015.
Survivors include his two sons, Bill (Deb) Elchert and John (Michelle) Elchert, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Bonnie (Louie) Aiello and Roberta Elchert, both of Tiffin; three sisters, Mary Ann Folk Forstner, Alice Tuttle and Susan Gibson; four step-brothers, William Snyder, Percy Snyder, Donald Snyder and Arnold Snyder; a stepsister, Barb Shafer; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Irene Matthews; a daughter, Beverly Baker; two brothers, Lloyd Matthews and Richard Matthews; two sisters, Beverly Hoover and Norma McDonald; a baby sister, Cheryl Matthews; two stepbrothers, William Snyder and Chester Snyder; four stepsisters, Dorothy Hill, Pauline Dewald, Donna Jean Saxion and Betty Kerr; one granddaughter; one grandson; one great-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Burial will be at noon Saturday, March 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
