Winifred “Winnie” V. Hartsel, 95, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2019, at Mercy Health — Tiffin Hospital.

She was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Cleveland, to George and Vennetta (Varnes) Schoepe. She married Donald R. Hartsel May 4, 1946, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cleveland, and he preceded her in death in 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Denny) Miller of Tiffin and Vennetta (Steve Altmeyer) Mullins of Sycamore; four sons, Tim (Dorothy) Hartsel, David (Barb) Hartsel, Guy Hartsel and Scott (Vicki) Hartsel, all of Tiffin; a daughter-in-law, Prapit Hartsel of Texas; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Don Hartsel Jr.; a brother, George Schoepe II; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Vivino and Kael Miller.

Winnie graduated from Parma Schaaf High School in 1942, and then furthered her education at Dyke and Spencerian College. She later attended Tiffin University. In 1960, Winnie and Don moved from Cleveland to Tiffin where she started working for Data Documents in 1967 as the office manager, retiring after 15 years. Throughout her life, Winnie enjoyed playing golf, painting with oils, traveling, bowling and playing cards. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital and as a Cub Scout master of Troop 444 for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin Moose, Allen Eiry Senior Center, Red Hat Society and the Emblem Club.

Friends may visit and share stories with the family 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, until the time of Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.

Her funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Allen Eiry Senior Center or the Humane Society of Seneca County.
