The Rev. John Vickers Spahr Sr.
The Rev. John Vickers Spahr Sr., 70, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at home in Mount Vernon.
He was born Dec. 3, 1947, in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, and raised in Tarentum, Allegheny County. He married Janet in 1971.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Jr. (Kelly) of Tiffin and Matthew of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Margaret Jeanne (Michael Kilhoffer) Spahr of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; a grandson, John III; four stepgrandchildren, Zachary Mitchell, Seth Mitchell, Gabrielle Mitchell and Dina Mitchell; two brothers, David (Delores) Spahr of Pittsburgh and Jim (Jackie) Spahr of Lakeport, California; a sister, Margaret Melinda (Denny) Scheid of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Dr. Jane Adams Spahr of San Francisco, California; a sister-in-law, Judy (Dr. Charles) Bungo; five nephews, Jim (Rhonda) Spahr II, Chesterfield (Teresa) Spahr, David R Spahr IV, Zachary Scheid and Chuck Bungo; and a niece, Judith Jeanne Bungo.
He is a graduate of Tarentum High School, Heidelberg College and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He is a retired member of Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Pastor John served eight churches in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, including the church in which he was ordained, Grace UMC Warren. He and his wife served as a presentation team of Marriage Encounter-United Methodist. In addition to his church work, Pastor Spahr enjoyed camping, theater, music and reading.
There will be no visitation.
The family will celebrate John’s life at 1 p.m. Sept. 15, 2018, at Grace UMC, 501 Pennsylvania Ave. E, Warren, PA 16365.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ecan.org), United Methodist Committee on Relief (umcor.org) or your local community hospice.
