John Eldon Jacoby
John Eldon Jacoby, 72, passed away Aug. 27, 2018, in his home.
John was born Sept. 27, 1945, to Earl “Jack” Jacoby and Mary Catherine Frisch of Melmore, who both preceded him in death. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Judith C. Lininger, Aug. 12, 1967. She survives, recently having celebrated 51 years of marriage with John. He has one brother, James Allen (Jackie) Jacoby of Melmore. He also survives.
The Jacobys raised three children in the New Washington and McComb communities and they survive him: Tamara (Mike) Wallace of Findlay and John F. (Callie) Jacoby and Dr. Jessica (Ric) Miller, both of Wauseon. John loved his seven grandchildren dearly, Michaela Bridenstine, Mara and Caleb Wallace, Graeme and Cayden Jacoby, Ellory and Madilyn Miller; and a great-grandson is expected in October.
John graduated from Mohawk High School in 1963 and The Ohio State University in 1967, with a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture education. John was a lifelong teacher, serving several districts, including Buckeye Central, Pioneer Joint Vocational, Delaware Joint Vocational, Columbiana, McComb, Fayette, Riverdale and Upper Scioto Valley as a vo-ag teacher, FFA adviser, adult program coordinator or science teacher for more than 35 years. Upon retirement from teaching, John also worked as a security guard for Securitas at Marathon Oil Co.
Along with watching his grandchildren in musical performances or basketball games, he was a farmer, breeder and trainer of standard-bred race horses and breeder of Suffolk sheep for more than 40 years. John served as a board member of Ohio Suffolk Sheep Association. He also was a Little League coach, 4-H adviser and member of Senior Fair Board in Hancock County.
John was a member of Tiro United Methodist Church, New Washington United Methodist Church, McComb United Methodist Church, St. Marks United Methodist Church of Findlay and recently attended Tedrow United Methodist Church.
Calling hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Aug. 30, 2018, at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, 219 S. Fulton St., Wauseon, OH 43567.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31. The Rev. Kevin Cochran will be officiating, with a luncheon to follow at Tedrow United Methodist Church, 17699 CR J, Wauseon.
