John C. Kovach, 93, of Upper Sandusky, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 4, 1925, to George and Anna (Popadines) Kovach. He married Dorothy Bill Nov. 27, 1948, and she survives in Upper Sandusky.

He also is survived by his three children, Diane Lynne (James) Gabriel of California, John (Maureen) Kovach II of Findlay and Carol Kovach of Upper Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Christie, Brigette, John, Bethany, Heather and Danielle; and his six great-grandchildren, Madison, Ava, Aulten, Evelyn, Penny and Odin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Kovach attended the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was an aviation radio operator. John was the owner and operator of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Upper Sandusky for 45 years and the president of J.C. Kovach Enterprises Inc. He also was a member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 225. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandchildren, playing games of chance and photography, and he was an avid Michigan Wolverine football fan.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Bringman Clark Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351, with a Catholic prayer service at 6 p.m.

A funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, with the Rev. Antony Varghese Vattaparambil, OFM Conv., and Deacon Kevin Wintersteller officiating. Internment will follow in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors being conducted by Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.
