Donald R. Sumpter

Donald R. Sumpter, 70, of Fremont, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1947, in Inez, Kentucky, to William Lloyd and Mary Louise (Spears) Sumpter. Mr. Sumpter was a Vietnam veteran, having received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.

He married Sharon (Beddow) Oct. 20, 1990, and she survives in Fremont. Also surviving are six children, Tonia Lutz of Millbury, Donald “Jake” Sumpter of Joshua, Texas, Martricia Lee of Clyde, Shawn (Vicki Looper) Beddow of Phoenix, Arizona, Becky Turnley of Bellevue and Scott Sams of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Rhonda (Ray) White of Monroeville and Terry (Nancy) Sumpter of Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Oretha Armendariz.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The Fremont Eagles will have a service at 7 p.m.

His funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde, with military rites provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
