Thomas L. ‘Tom’ Schumm
Thomas L. “Tom” Schumm, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Monday evening, May 21, 2018, at St. Francis Home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Tiffin, to George and Elizabeth (Dowdell) Schumm. He married Anna Marie Kimmet Feb. 9, 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Marie of Tiffin; a son, Anthony G. (Sherri) Schumm of Radnor; two daughters, Mary (Donald) Lucius of Fostoria and Margaret (Philip) Steyer of Alvada; a sister, Mary Scherger of Tiffin; and six grandchildren, Nicholas (Meagan) Steyer, Andrew Schumm, Brianna Lucius, Daniel Steyer, Aaron Lucius and PFC Matthew Schumm, USMC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold Schumm, Robert Schumm, James Schumm and Donald Schumm; and a sister, Elizabeth Reamer.
Tom graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1949 and graduated with an associate degree in business from Tiffin University. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Tom served in the United States Army 1950-1952 during the Korean War. He retired in 1994, after working 39 years at Whirlpool in Clyde. He also worked at J.J. Fleck as a shipping clerk. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 354, New Riegel. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, baking, swimming at the YMCA, camping, visiting Ireland and spending time with his family.
Friends may visit with the family 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424.
His Mass of Christian burial will begin at noon Monday, May 28, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by American Legion Post No. 354, New Riegel.
