Doris J. Thomas

Doris J. Thomas, 92, a resident of Primrose Retirement Community, Findlay, and formerly of Carey, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Doris was born July 20, 1925, in Ridge Township, Wyandot County, to Carl and Cora (Zahn) Bachman. She married Dale E. Thomas Jan. 19, 1946, and he preceded her in death Nov. 24, 2007.

Surviving are four children, Judith (Thomas) Tucker of Fremont, Jean (Patrick) Miller of Munster, Indiana, Edwin (Brenda) Thomas of McCutchenville and Eldon (Edna Campos) Thomas of Houston, Texas; special friends, Tom and Mary Rettig of Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomas of Willoughby.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Margaret Robison and Elizabeth McCarley; a daughter-in-law, Diana Thomas; an infant brother; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Thomas was a 1943 graduate of Carey High School. In addition to being a partner with her husband on their dairy farm in rural Carey, she was a Ridge Township clerk and retired from Cheney Chevrolet, Carey. She was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, Priscilla Circle, Lutheran Church Women and volunteered at the Carey Food Pantry.

Doris enjoyed vacation trips to Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Mexico, Washington, D.C., and, especially, fishing trips to Bay Villa in Whitefish Falls, Ontario, Canada. Doris spent many hours playing euchre, Skip-Bo, golf and other card games and teaching her children and grandchildren how to play, as well. She also loved to read all kinds of books, devotionals and her Bible.

A memorial service for Doris will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church, Carey, with the Rev. William P. Schultz officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
