Leora Mae Scherger
Leora Mae Scherger, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 23, 2017, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Tiffin, to Gerald and Glenna (Alsbaugh) Bowers. Oct. 21, 1950, she married Norbert J. Scherger Sr., and he preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by two sons, Norbert J. “Nub” (Gayle) Scherger Jr. and Dennis P. (Carol) Scherger, both of Tiffin; four daughters, Sue (Mark) Baum of Tiffin, Darlene (Roger) Rucker of Powell, Christine (Richard) Welter of Tiffin and Tina (James) Mira of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, David Main of Tiffin; a sister, Deborah (Donald) Weller of Tiffin; a brother, Charles (Janet) Bowers of Alvada; a sister-in-law, Ida Bowers of Tiffin; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Harrison of Bettsville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Main; a sister, Rosemary Harrison; a brother, Gerald Bowers; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Scott and Gavin.
Leora was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a homemaker and volunteered at Autumnwood Care Center. She enjoyed needlework, bingo, square dancing, camping, playing cards and was a sports fan. Family meant everything to Leora, she loved going to her grandchildren’s and great- grandchildren’s activities.
Her Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Garden.
Friends may visit with the family 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center or Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment of Seneca County.
