James Joseph Adams

James Joseph Adams, of Bellevue, went home to be with The Lord Saturday, July 29, 2017, while on an Alaskan cruise with his beautiful bride of 54 years, Alice (Henney). The two were aboard the Emerald Princess and enjoyed Ketchikan en route to Victoria, B.C., Canada.

Joe was a graduate of Thompson High School, class of 1961, along with Coyne Electrical School-Chicago, Lincoln Welding School and was an AWS certified welder.

Joe was the proud father of James I. of Republic and the Rev. Jacqueline (Mark) Hamilton of Huron. He was the proud grandfather of Alexandria “Allie” of Columbus, F. Joseph Hamilton of Sandusky and Zachary James Adams of Republic. Joe’s surviving sisters are Janice (Ed) Vargo, Virginia (Charles) Sanderson, Glenda (Merrill) Smith, Patricia Nation and Avis (Dennis) Kreais; and brother-in-law, Roger Dick.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Arley and Estie Adams, and sister, Greta (Adams) Dick.

Joe was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and on the administrative council board, he was a past member of National and Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association, two-time NTPA Grand National point champion, Firelands Pioneer Power, Buckeye Oliver, Lagrange Engine Club, Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association and Fraternal Order of Eagles Post No. 490.

Joe recently trained entrepreneurs welding for Axle Surgeons. He retired from Norfolk Southern as a millwright machinist. He led construction teams at nuclear power plants in Perry, Enrico Fermi and Davis Besse. Joe also taught welding technology at Terra Technical College. He was a millwright for Magic Chef/Johnson Furnace and briefly worked for Alice & Gaylord Zechman at Zechman Electric and Farms.

He loved pulling tractors, farming, going to tractor pulls, tending his yard and garden, but most of all, he loved his family and friends.

Friends will be received 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.

His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Flat Rock. Burial will follow at Flat Rock Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Seybert Cemetery in care of Flat Rock Ebenezer United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 566, Flat Rock, OH 44828.
