Donald Steven Yarris

Donald Steven Yarris, 67, lifelong resident of Fostoria and a prominent accounting partner in Fostoria, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, after a brief illness.

Don was born April 9, 1950, to Dr. William F. and Mrs. Elizabeth M. (Breiner) Yarris.

Don leaves his wife, Janet (Watson); dear sister, Elizabeth; brother, Charles (Barbara); sister-in-law, Pam Yarris; 10 nieces and nephews, Cynthia Rich, Jeff, Chris, Tim, and Abbey Yarris, Megan Foglietti, Christopher, Damon and Jordan Ragusa; stepson, Terry Steigerwalt; the mother of his son, Mary Jane Yarris; and many dear friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; brother-in-law, Don Ragusa; and his beloved son, Steffen.

After graduating from St. Wendelin High School, Don asked C. Richard Fruth for a job, saying he was so passionate about accounting that he’d even work for free to prove himself. Mr. Fruth hired Don, who later graduated from Tiffin University, became a CPA, and then partner at Fruth & Company. Don served his community during a 49-year accounting career. He was elected Fostoria city treasurer. Don was a member of American Institute of CPAs and Ohio Society of CPAs. He devoted his time, leadership, and accounting expertise to Fostoria’s community and charitable organizations, most notably Day Break, Good Shepherd Home, Wesley Village, Fostoria Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, United Way and YMCA.

Don grew up fishing, boating and skiing around western Lake Erie and its islands. As a Fostoria Country Club member, he liked golfing there, along with his favorite, Muirfield Village, and many other courses. He enjoyed hunting excursions out west and in Pennsylvania. For years, he hunted, shot skeet, and played cards as a member of Hilltop Club. Most of all, Don was a proud father who loved playing black jack at casinos with his son, Steffen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fostoria Community Hospital and Dr. Lutz at Blanchard Valley Health System, Bridge Home Health Care including the Hospice Care Center, for their excellent care.

His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, with Pastor Donald Goodwin officiating at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, 301 West Tiffin Street, Fostoria.

Friends and family may visit 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Arcadia Cemetery.
