Orbin ‘Monty’ Montgomery
Orbin “Monty” Montgomery, 97, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
Monty was born March 13, 1920, in Tella, Kentucky, to Greenville and Mary Elizabeth (Howard) Montgomery. He married Sillar H. (Hall) Feb. 12, 1972, in Tiffin, and she preceded him in death Nov. 11, 2012.
Monty is survived by his two sons, Douglas Montgomery of Florida and Ronnie Montgomery of Las Vegas; a daughter, Elaine (Marvin) Cummings of Hillsboro; a stepson, Sonny (Mary) Hatton of Tiffin; a stepdaughter, Billie (Duncan) Rowe of Delaware; a brother, Skid Montgomery of Waverly; three sisters, Verlie (Bob) Snyder, Vertie Howard and Flossie Montgomery, all of Waverly; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Monty also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marijo Gardner; two stepchildren, Ann Tackett and James Hatton; three brothers, Ossie, Corbit and Hector Montgomery; and three sisters, Zule and Drusie Montgomery and Lucy Conley.
Monty retired from General Motors and was a member of Eighth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. Monty was a graduate of Campbellsville University and a United States Army veteran serving during World War II.
A funeral for Monty will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, with the Rev. Charles Snelling officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin, with military rites being rendered by United Veterans Council.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral Wednesday at the funeral home.
