Donna W. Elchert, 88, of Fostoria, passed away at 9:37 a.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

She was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Upper Sandusky, to Charles F. and Mary E. (Volz) Ritzler. She married Donald A. “Tank” Elchert Nov. 15, 1958, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and he preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1997. The wedding was officiated by her twin brother, the Rev. Donald W. Ritzler C.PP.S.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen W. (Kathleen M.) Elchert of Findlay and Mark A. (Jen L.) Elchert of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Alex J., Claire M. and Aaron D. Elchert; a sister, Helen M. Vent of Upper Sandusky; a brother, James R. (Judith) Ritzler of Bluffton, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Rose Ritzler of Poland and Mary R. (George) Siciliano of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Donna also was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother; five brothers, Joseph M. (Vivian) Ritzler, Alfred E. (Mary Ann) Ritzler, George F. Ritzler and two infant brothers, Charles and John; a sister, Frances U. (Paul) Keiffer; six brothers-in-law, Bernard F. Vent, Roland (Ann) Elchert, Raymond “Carl” Elchert, Vernon Elchert, Bernard (Alice) Elchert and Thomas W. Elchert; a sister-in-law, Juanita D. Elchert; a niece, Sharon Elchert; and a nephew, Cpl. Richard P. Ritzler, who was killed in Vietnam.

Donna graduated from St. Wendelin Catholic High School in 1947. She was an active member and volunteer at St. Wendelin Catholic Church and member of St. Wendelin’s Rosary-Altar Society; and was a 4th Ward election worker. She worked many years at National Carbon Company; Gutknecht & Echelbarger, Attorneys; and Samuel F. Hammonds, Attorney.

Donna enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, attending her sons’ and grandchildren’s sports events and cheering her favorite teams. Church and family always came first.

Visitation will be 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria.

Her Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, with the Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. A rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery, Fostoria.
