Carl E. Otte

Carl E. Otte, 80, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.

The son of George and Gladys, he was born Jan. 31, 1936, in Toledo.

Carl was a graduate of Whitmer High School, where he was captain of the football team. After graduation, he went to trade school, serving his apprenticeship at Wilson’s Cabinet Shop before becoming a carpenter. Carl worked for ARCO for 40 years. Some of his more notable projects were the Pepsi Plant, Franklin Park Mall, Foodtowns and Greenwood Mall. He was a member of Carpenters and Millwright Union 248. When he was not working, he enjoyed being outdoors. Over the years, he planted more than 2,000 trees on his property and successfully grew different species of fruit trees. Carl often would bring his produce to work and share it with his coworker and say “look what God and I grew.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara; three children, David (Linda), Denise (Joseph) Medevdov and Darrin (Arlea); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard (Roseanne) and Ed Otte.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and infant granddaughter, Angelina Marie.

Friends may visit the family 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey Road) where services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
