Arthur J. Welly

Arthur J. Welly, 93, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital, with his wife by his side.

Arthur was born April 6, 1923, in Seneca County, to Adam T. and Clara H. (Grimes) Welly. He married Mary Catherine (Davidson) July 23, 1946, at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey, and she survives.

Survivors also include his two sons, James A. (Robin) Welly and Timothy E. (Beth) Welly; three daughters, Catherine A. (Laurence) Kelbley, Rebecca L. (Donald) Gosche and Mary Jo (Kevin) Kurtz; a son-in-law, Larry A. Kennedy; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Clara J. Kennedy; five brothers, Cletus, Paul H., Florian D., Virgil H. and Norman J. Welly; and four sisters, Eunice Stever, Erma Welly, Marguerite Ferguson and Rosemary Miller.

Arthur attended St. Peter School, Alvada, and retired as owner of Wellys Monument Co. in 1990.

His Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Fund or to Community Hospice Care.
