Mary Jane Hesson

Mary Jane Hesson, 83, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at her home in Monroe Township, New Jersey, having succumbed to cancer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan R. Hesson; her mother, Davila O. Hesson; her brother, David O. Hesson; and her great-nephew, Matthew Hesson Brady.

She is survived by her brother, Ivan D. (Irene) Hesson; her sister-in-law, Sue Hesson; her three nieces, Karen Hesson Brady, Linda (Greg) Grice, and Christina Hesson; three nephews, Greg (Shana) Hesson, Andy (Jaclyn) Hesson and Dan (Theresa) Hesson; four great-nieces, Cassie Brady, Rachel Rivera, Bailey Hesson and Adriana Hesson; and five great-nephews, Jake and Andy Grice, Eric Rivera, Chase Hesson, Ashton Hesson, Mac and Riley Hesson. Mary Jane was adored by her family and friends.

Mary Jane was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Toledo. She was raised in Tiffin and graduated from Tiffin Columbian in 1948. She went on to Miami University and graduated in 1952 with a BA in Spanish. After college, she moved to New York City. While working, she also attended Interboro Institute for bi-lingual secretarial studies and became proficient in short hand. After New York, she moved to San Francisco and then to Cleveland. In 1960, she moved back to New York City and started her extended career with the Rockefeller Family & Associates where she became the executive secretary to the Rockefeller’s attorneys. She retired in 1991. Mary Jane had been living in the Rossmoor Community in Monroe Township New Jersey for the past 30 years.

Mary Jane was a strong, independent, fun-loving woman and was a great role model. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved to travel which included trips abroad. She was an avid reader and extremely knowledgeable in history. One of her favorite activities in retirement was her stewardship of the Rossmoor Rental Library.

A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin.
