Ruth J. Flechtner

Ruth J. Flechtner, 87, of Austin, Texas, and formerly Tiffin, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2013, at Stonebridge Health Center, Austin, with her family beside her.

She was born May 16, 1926, in Jeannette, Pa., to Edwin J. and Jean F. (Duez) Long. She married Ned M. Flechtner March 24, 1950, in Tiffin.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela J. Colvin of Dripping Springs, Texas; three sons, Hal C. (Elaine) Flechtner of San Antonio, Texas, Michael R. Flechtner of Van Nuys, Calif., and Christian W. Flechtner of Converse, Texas; a brother, Robert Long of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Tracy Green, Todd Moore, Brad Flechtner, Jessica Mae Weathersby and Angela Flechtner; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ned; and a grandson, Ned Michael Moore.

In 1970, Ruth received her GED from Columbian and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She worked at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, as a teenager during World War II, machining parts for the carbine rifle. Ruth worked at Turner Restaurant and the Pan Yan Restaurant while in Tiffin. She spent 25 years with the IRS and retired in 2006 at the age of 80. Ruth moved from Tiffin to Texas in 1980 to be close to her family.

A graveside service and burial, next to her husband, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Greenlawn Cemetery with Pastor Hannah Tucker officiating. A private visitation took place for the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local veterans’ administration or to a local breast cancer charity.

Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with arrangements.
