Rosemary Ward

Rosemary Ward, 86, of Carey, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born March 26, 1927, in Carey, the daughter of the late Grover and Rosa (Kin) Bakies. She married Richard E. Ward June 5, 1949, in Carey. He preceded her in death Aug. 24, 2009.

Surviving are four children, Carol (Michael) O’Reilly, Roger (Pamela) Ward, both of Carey, Deborah (Dana) Barnes, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jo Ann (Michael) Blair, Carey; 10 grandchildren, Evan Ward, Jamie Puckett, Kathleen O’Reilly, Jennifer Sharp, Kara Ward, Richard O’Reilly, Stacy Barnes, Natalie Phoenix, Matthew Barnes and Corbin Blair; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Grover “Junior” Bakies, Gretna, La., Vincent (Joyce) Bakies, Alexandria, La., and James (Shirley) Bakies, Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Anna Mae (James) Draper, Carey; and a sister-in-law, Treva Bakies, Carey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Hoerig and Helena Denner; and three brothers, John, Raymond and Anthony Bakies.

A 1945 graduate of Carey High School, Rosemary was a homemaker and, after 40 years, retired from Autolite in Fostoria. She had also worked at Porcelain Products in Carey.

Rosemary loved baking and cooking for her family. For years, she prepared the Sunday meal for her family following Mass. Her chocolate chip cookies were a family favorite.

She had a very strong faith and was a lifelong member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, where a scripture service will be at 7:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with the Rev. Xavier Goulet, OFM Conv, officiating.

A private burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
