Robert G. Wagner
Our hero and family leader, Robert G. Wagner, 88, of Tiffin, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013.
Robert was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Akron, to Glenn and Nell Wagner (Hemminger). He married his wife Bonnie Nov. 14, 1964, and she survives. He is also survived by his three daughters, Wende (Jason) Jourdan of Lewis Center, Cindi Sparks of Tiffin, Cortnie (Ryan) Hampshire of Tiffin; a son, Anderson (Heather) Wagner of Lacey, Wash.; a sister, Donna Hartley of Akron; a sister in-law, Jane Abbott of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents Irene Wagner and Roy Hemminger; brother Willis Wagner; mother-in-law and father-in-law Harvey and Louise Dawson; brothers-in-law Hans Abbott and Alan Hartley; and sister-in-law Hazele Wagner.
Bob was a graduate of Lorain County Community College and The F.B.I. National Academy. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, a former sheriff of Seneca County (nine years), and a U.S. Marshal, Northern District of Ohio, (eight years). He retired from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office in Columbus. He was extremely proud of being able to serve the people of Seneca County as their sheriff and many of his dearest friends and fondest memories came from that period of time. He loved sharing his stories of his days as sheriff and hearing from people who had fond memories of something he had done while in office.
Robert was a devoted family man who loved watching football and baseball, eating Chinese food, and spending time with his family. His passion was playing cards and he rarely passed up an opportunity to get in a game, especially with his card playing friends at the Eagles Club. Robert was involved in many local organizations including NARFE, American Legion, K of C, 4th degree knight, Tiffin Eagles, VFW, Moose Club, FBINAA and Tiffin AMVETS Post No. 48. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Tiffin, where he ushered and helped count the weekly collection. Robert was an extremely generous man and donated to multiple charities on a monthly basis. He also volunteered his time for several years at Community Hospice Care in Tiffin. Robert will be greatly missed by family, friends and his two dogs, Sophie and Snickers.
Visitation will be at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Tiffin, from 5-8 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.
