Thomas G. Williams

Thomas G. Williams, 70, of Greensboro, Ga., and formerly Waterville, Minn., and Tiffin, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1943, in Oakland, Calif., to Robert S. and Anna J. (Knopf) Williams.

Survivors include his four daughters, Andrea (Brad) Edwards of Charlotte, N.C., Carrie Williams of Harleysville, Pa., Molly (David) Reed of Beverly Hills, Mich., and Katie (Matt) Bittner of Chagrin Falls; his 10 beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Grace, Ryan, Emily, Clay, Nicole, Christian, Megan, Paige and Lauren; and his three siblings, Kathleen (Stephen) Kelbley of Fountain Hills, Ariz., David Williams of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Robert (Paula) Williams of Willoughby Hills. He also is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

After living in Oakland, Calif., Tom lived in San Jose, Calif., until his family was relocated to Holland, Mich., and later Tiffin, where he graduated from Calvert High School in 1961. He attended The University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1965 with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. In 1973, Tom graduated with a master of science in industrial and systems engineering from Ohio University. Tom was employed by General Electric for many years, and later by Brown Printing Co., Waseca, Minn., where he was vice president and general manager for 16 years, before retiring in 2006.

Tom took great pride and joy in his four daughters and in his young grandchildren. He loved being known as “Grandpa Tom” and loved “doing projects” with his grandkids. Tom also immensely enjoyed his many travels and adventures with his brother, David.

Tom had many beloved friends and colleagues, and enjoyed spending time with them. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, boating and gardening. He was also an avid sports fan. He had a great love of life, a tremendous sense of humor and above all, he was an extremely generous man.

Tom’s life will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Tiffin. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St. His Mass of Christian burial will follow at noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Charitable contributions in Tom’s honor may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools in Tiffin or your local humane society.
