Almeda D. Hibner

Almeda D. Hibner, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Auglaize Acres.

She was born June 17, 1921, in Allen County, the daughter of Frank and Doris Fisher, who preceded her in death. She married Reuben E. Hibner Jan. 4, 1942, and he died Jan. 9, 2005.

Survivors include, five children, Doris J. Hibner of Wapakoneta, Dale F. (Joyce) Hibner of Crossville, Tenn., James F. Hibner of Logan, Janice K. (Richard) Valentine of Tiffin and David L. (Chris) Hibner of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Fisher of Lima.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Reuben Paul Hibner and three brothers, Joseph, David and Lyman Fisher.

Almeda was born and raised in the Spencerville area. Upon her marriage, she joined Reuben in the farming operation in Clay Township while rearing six children. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, since her marriage in 1942. Her church was very important to her. She served on various committees and taught Sunday School for 37 years and she also served as Sunday School superintendent.

One of her strong interests of concern was for those who could not get out to attend church. She was the force behind Congregational Care at St. Paul Church for many years. In this capacity, she lead a group of women in making various craft gifts which the congregation then distributed to those in hospitals, nursing homes and home bound.

For many years she was an active volunteer at Fairhaven Community Home, Upper Sandusky, which is part of the United Church Homes. At one time, she served as a board member of the Fairhaven Volunteers.

Almeda, along with her late husband, was very active in Gideons International. She served on many auxiliary committees, including making special favors for the annual dinners. Almeda was an active 4-H advisor for 40 years and was honored by the Ohio Extension Agents Association for her leadership in 1997. She served on the Ohio Extension Homemakers council board as environmental chairperson for four years. Almeda also was active in many community activities including band parents and the annual Cancer Society fundraising drive.

Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, with Pastors Becky Sunday and Elaine Mikesell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave., Wapakoneta, OH 45895, (419) 738-7676 and one hour prior to her funeral Thursday at the church.
