William Carter, 77, of Sycamore, died at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Whirlwind, W. Va., to Boyd and Nora Belle (Vanderpool) Carter. He married Ineze (Sargent) Carter Jan. 18, 1959, and she died Aug. 1, 2005.
Surviving are four children, Carl “Taylor” Carter, Brandon Sherer, Debra (Steve) Payne and Alexis Sherer, all of Sycamore; two grandchildren, Ryan (April) Sherer of Findlay and William (Michelle) Payne of Sycamore; four great-grandchildren, Tyonna and Trinitee Sipe of Marblehead, Wesley Payne of San Antonio, Texas, and Heath Hill of Findlay; two sisters, Inis (Larry) Adams of Greenup, Ky., and Kernie Tomblin of Palestine, W.Va.; three sisters-in law, Barb and Brenda Carter of Chapmanville, W.Va., and Rosemary Bryant of Bryan; a brother-in-law, Columbus Workman of Harts, W.Va.; a special niece, Nora “Sissy” Kelley of Palestine, W.Va.; and his special caregiver, Michelle Lemley.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Carrie Kyan Payne; two brothers, Isaac and John Carter; one sister, Lucille Workman; three brothera-in-law, Richard Bryant, Roland Adams and Dewey Toblin Jr.; and a special nephew, Elva Kelley.
He was retired as a supervisor from Kenton Iron Products and the former Hayes-Albion, Tiffin. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborn stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1954-1957.
A funeral for William will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, W.Va. with the Rev. Elbert Collins Jr. officiating.
Burial will take place at the Carter Family Cemetery, Harts, W.Va.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the funeral home.
