Joyce Marie Haubert

Joyce Marie (Hawk) Haubert, 67, formerly of Kansas, Ohio, died at her Houston, Texas, home Thursday morning, May 30, 2013, under the care of hospice.

Joyce was born June 1, 1945, in Fostoria, to Harry and Augusta (Smiley) Hawk Sr. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1963 and later attended courses at Terra Community College in Fremont. In 1965, she married Walter John Haubert II, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Millersville, and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by her five children, Nancy (Bob) Gosche of Katy, Texas, Mary (Kurt) Brewer of Risingsun, Danny (Mitzi) Haubert of Fremont, Laura (Ben) Walkup of Pioneer and Kevin (Rebecca) Haubert of Glendale, Az.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis (Earl) Broadwater of Kansas and Margie (Bob) Bergstedt of Fostoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Lesa Marie Gosche; and a brother, Harry Hawk Jr.

Joyce formerly worked at Memorial Hospital in Fremont, where she was a surgical technician for more than 25 years. After relocating to Texas, she worked as a sterilization technician at the Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas. She retired in 2010.

Joyce was a member of the former St. James Catholic Church in Kansas, where she was very active in the altar rosary society and was a lay communion distributor. She was a current member of the St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, where she served as an usher. She loved spending time with her family, and will be remembered for baking cookies, breads and pies. She enjoyed collecting Depression Glass, McCall Pottery and tea pots.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg.

A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Millersville. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
