Marvalene L. Cook
Marvalene L. Cook, 89, of Tiffin, died Thursday morning, March 28, 2013, in Tiffin.
She was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Jackson Township, Seneca County, to Orley and Elzina (Swank) Kisabeth. She married Charles Howard Cook Feb. 15, 1947, in Tiffin, and he died Feb. 7, 2003.
Marvalene is survived by two children, Bill (Mary) Cook of Bascom and Bonnie (Ralph) Kindler of Monroe; three grandchildren, Jim (Kathy) Cook of Westerville, Beth (Chris) Sheehan of Houtos, Texas, and Kelly (Rachel) Cook of Tiffin; and three great-granddaughters, Laura, Savanna and Cara Cook, all of Tiffin.
Marvalene loved playing the accordion and began playing while in the seventh grade. After graduating from Jackson High School, she began giving accordion lessons in Fostoria, Tiffin, Toledo, Shelby and Mansfield. Her students often performed on the radio as part of the Trick Brothers’ Show. She returned to giving lessons on Saturdays after having her children. Marvalene also worked for 20 years at the Tiffin Sears store.
She was a very active and 67-year member of the Republic and Pamona Granges, joining in 1947, and receiving all five degrees. She and her husband were Seneca County deputies for two terms. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and making chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren and friends.
Her funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Jeff King officiating. Burial will follow at St. Jacob’s Cemetery, Republic.
Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
