Elaine E. Hoover

Elaine E. Hoover, 72, of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in the emergency room at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 18, 1940, in Mexico, Ohio, to Richard and Cozetta (Cross) Flechsenhar. She married Ernest Hoover Aug. 14, 1960, at Dover Air Force Base, Del., and he survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mylayne (Myra Miller) of Hilliard, Valoria (Jeff Garascia) of Dublin and Trisha (Leroy McCall) of Upper Sandusky; a son, Joseph Hoover of Upper Sandusky; a grandson, Alexander “A.J.” Jacoby of Upper Sandusky; two granddaughters, Victoria “Tori” Garascia of Dublin and Presley Hoover of Wharton; three stepgrandchildren, Justin McCall, Katelyn McCall and Trevor McCall of Forest; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin brothers and a sister, Diane (Richard) Widman.

A member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, she also was a member of the first group of parishioners at St. Peter Church chosen to be lay ministers distributing the Holy Eucharist after Vatican II.

Mrs. Hoover graduated from Sycamore High School and from Ohio State University. She taught school at St. Peter Catholic School and Upper Sandusky Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Ohio and Wyandot County Retired Teachers’ Association; a member of Upper Sandusky Women of the Moose; a charter member and past president of Upper Sandusky Lioness Club; and a member and first woman president of Upper Sandusky Lions Club. She served as district diabetes awareness chairwoman.

She was a past member of Emblem Club and American Legion Auxiliary, Sycamore. She had served on the United Way board of directors and had been a participant in plays at Star Theatre.

She loved to make patchwork quilts and Halloween costumes for her children, grandchildren and friends. Her artistic talents were always shown with drawings, paintings and especially murals done for family. She was an avid reader and loved to write poetry.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Bringman Clark Funeral Home with a Catholic prayer service beginning at 3:45 p.m.
