William A. ‘Bill’ Lake

William A. “Bill” Lake, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2013, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Tiffin, to Amos W. and Ada (Aller) Lake. He married Dorothy J. Straub Aug. 24, 1946, in Fremont.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Charlene (Tim) Wilson of Republic, Mary (Dennis) Kerlin of Tiffin and Vivian Davenport of Crossville, Tenn.; two sisters, Glee Ova Everetts of Florida and Emma (Harlan) Kuhn of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, James Lake; a daughter, Violet Lake; and one granddaughter.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from Oct. 27, 1942, to Dec. 4, 1945. After returning from the war, he was a construction worker and retired, after many years, from Local 574 in Marion. He was a member of the VFW 2858, was post commander from 1997-1998 and also belonged to VFW Military Order of the Cootie. He also was a member of National Association Civilian Conservation Corporation Alumni. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and playing euchre and loved doing yardwork.

His funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424 with the Rev. David Raulston officiating.

Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens with military honors being conducted by United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
