John E. Kuhn
John E. Kuhn, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 28, 2013, in the emergency room at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1924, to Albert and Hubertine (Mueller) Kuhn. He married Dorothy Puffenberger June 7, 1947.
Surviving are his wife of more than 65 years, Dorothy; two sons, John (Theresa) Kuhn Jr. and Thomas (Heidi) Kuhn, both of Columbus; six daughters, Geraldine (John) Bolte of Port Clinton, Janette Kennedy and Charline (William) Catt, both of Columbus, Annalisa (Scott) Bowers and Kathryn (Thomas) Borer, both of Tiffin, and Mary (Daniel) Friedman of Fairfield, Conn.; one brother, George Kuhn of Tiffin; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Kuhn of San Diego, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Joline Kennedy in 2012; two brothers, the Rev. Thomas Kuhn and Albert “Pete” Kuhn; and a sister, Kathleen Sexton.
John graduated in 1942 from Tiffin Columbian High School and then served during World War II in the United States Navy from Oct. 5, 1942-April 22, 1946. He worked at National Machinery, as a machinist, for more than 40 years, retiring in 1987 and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also was a eucharistic minister and served Mass at Mercy Tiffin Hospital; his faith was very important. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his cottage on the lake, boating on all the Great Lakes and going on motor home trips across the United States with his family.
His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 8 p.m. Members of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
