Roofing company agrees to pay $5,000

A roofing company agreed to pay $5,000 after a lawsuit had been filed against it in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.

A lawsuit had been filed on behalf of Derek and Joline Houpt of Bloomville and their insurance company, Nationwide Insurance Co., against Northern Roofers of Carey.

According to the lawsuit, the Houpts owned and lived in a house at 7645 S. SR 19, Bloomville, and Northern Roofers had control over work being performed on the roof April 18, 2017.

A fire broke out on the roof and/or at the location of roof repairs while Northern Roofers was working, it states.

The lawsuit alleged the fire caused significant damage to the entire home and personal property.

Northern Roofers agreed to pay $5,000, plus costs, over six months, according to court records.

The lawsuit would be dismissed once scheduled payments are made.
