Fundraising to aid restoration of Republic town hall
REPUBLIC — Donna Hudacek and her daughter, Sarah, along with Charlene Wilson from the Scipio Republic Area Historical Society, approached Republic council Monday night to announce upcoming fundraising events for the organization.
Proceeds go toward restoration of the village’s town hall.
At 8 p.m. Saturday, the movie “McClintock” is to be shown at the town hall. A Town Hall Trot offering a 5K run or walk starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 is next on the agenda. Several levels of sponsorship are available by contacting Hudacek at (419) 618-1846 or firstname.lastname@example.org. T-shirts will be available to participants.
A “Fall in Love with Republic” event is planned 10:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at Community Park where homemade apple butter will be made and tours of the log cabin will be available. Republic Knights of Columbus will be preparing barbecued chicken and other groups and organizations are invited to participate. Groups should contact Hudacek by July 28 if interested.

Councilman Kevin Thompson reported the American Legion has donated a new flag to council for placement in the village triangle. He thanked the community for its participation and police officers for escorting the Memorial Day parade through the village. He also questioned a tree being cut down.
Thompson noted the Aug. 3 Block Party. Anyone interested in taking part should call the village office at (419) 585 5981, Ext.1.
Mayor Jeff Larick reminded residents that grass is to be no taller than 6 inches and trees are to be trimmed with at least 10 feet of clearance over sidewalks and near intersections. He is investigating a new trash hauler for the village.
Council entered into executive session to discuss compensation of a public employee.
In other business, council:
• Heard all funds total $2,149,368.25 with $600,000 of that invested.
• Learned hydrant flushing happens Monday and Tuesday.
• Set a budget hearing for 6:30 p.m. July 1 preceding the regular session at 7 p.m.
