A Tiffin man who pleaded guilty to two sex-related charges in March was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday morning.

Joey F. King Sr., 34, had been indicted on charges of rape, a first-degree felony; sexual battery, a second-degree felony; and gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.

He had pleaded guilty to charges of sexual battery, a second-degree felony, and gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony, during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff’s courtroom.

The rape charge was dismissed.

Shuff sentenced him to 10 years in prison, with seven of the years being mandatory, Monday. He granted credit for 518 days served.

King was classified as a Tier III sex offender, with in-person registration every 90 days for his lifetime. He is prohibited from establishing a residence within 1,000 feet of a school.

Tiffin Police Department had received allegations of child molestation at Highland Park Estates Mobile Home Park, 686 S. Sandusky St., court records state.

Angela Boes, assistant Seneca County prosecutor, had said the victim was 9 years old when the offenses were committed.

During Monday’s hearing, Boes said King told the victim not to tell, has thought only of himself and has a history of criminal convictions starting in 2003 and of substance abuse. The relationship between King and the victim facilitated the offenses, she said.

“She remains in counseling until this day,” she said of the victim.

Adam Stone, King’s attorney, said it was a crime against a child and was serious. King took responsibility, and a pre-sentence investigation noted he did show remorse, Stone said.

King declined to speak before sentencing.
